What to Do When Your Child Isn't Ready to Talk After a Meltdown

big emotions correction Oct 23, 2026

Hey friends,

Have you ever given your child some time to calm down after a meltdown, only to have things fall apart again when you try to talk about what happened?

Maybe they tell you they're ready, but their voice is still angry, their face is tense, or they start blaming someone else as soon as you begin asking questions.

One thing I've learned is that taking a break doesn't always mean a child is ready to move on. Some kids need more time or a different kind of support before they can work through what happened and make things right.

In my latest video, I walk you through what to do when your child comes back from a break but isn't quite ready to talk. We'll look at how to recognize where your child is emotionally, when to keep working through the conversation, and when it's better to pause and help them settle a little more.
